The story of the Knights of Columbus
SMM School winners of the recent Keep Christ in Christmas poster & essay contest included:

First place winners will go on to state competition and we wish them the best of luck! Thanks to all who participated including Ms. Melanie Gaumond (School Religion Coordinator) and Ms. Jody Moreau (Parish Pastoral Council) who assisted with the judging.
· Columbian Award-four activities in each of six program areas;
· Father McGivney Award-for membership growth;
· Food for Families Award-over 1600 pounds of food collected for the Social Apostolate; and,
· Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP) Award for continued support-financial & spiritual for Seminarian Andrew Gutierrez whose Diaconal Ordination was May 19, 2018

· Every Saturday, before Vigil Mass, Knights lead the praying of the Rosary
· January-Facilitated SMM School’s Liturgical Club Diaper Drive
· February-Lenten Meal (funded RSVP); Start of 40 Cans for Lent Food Drive
· March-40 Cans for Lent completed; provided Palms for Altar Society and parishioners
· April-Procession & Adoration as part of Mass of the Lord’s Supper; Born to Run 5K food booth; provided food for SMM parish picnic; and, end of year picnic for Parish School of Religion
· May-Baby Shower & Celebration of Life breakfast; Altar Server Banquet; and, financial support for SMM school student in need
· June-Greeters on Corpus Christi-Miracle of Lanciano Prayer cards; Food for Reception for Fr. Vincent, Deacons Jim & Lee

Founded in 1882 by the Venerable Michael J. McGivney, the Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic fraternal service organization in the world with nearly 2 million members. Membership is open to all practicing Catholic men ages 18 and older. If you are interested in helping those in need, serving your parish and community while growing in your faith, the the Knights of Columbus is the organization for you. National programs in which we participate include Special Olympics, Global Wheelchair Mission, Habitat for Humanity and Coats for Kids. Locally we sponsor lunches/receptions for SMM altar servers, CCD classes, and fair setup workers; organize Right to Life activities; and, assist charities such as ARC of New Orleans, and the Magnolia School.
